You Don’t Need Therapy to Deserve Connection

Why we keep hosting free community events.

There is a quiet message many people have learned over the years:

“I only deserve support when I’m struggling enough.”

By the time many people reach out for therapy, they’ve often spent months—or years—feeling isolated. They aren’t just anxious or depressed. They’re disconnected.

Disconnected from community.

Disconnected from creativity.

Disconnected from nature.

Disconnected from themselves.

Therapy can absolutely help with that. But therapy shouldn’t be the only place people experience genuine human connection.

That’s why we continue to host free community events at The Therapeutic Workshop.

Not because they’re marketing.

Not because we’re trying to convince people to become clients.

Because we believe connection is valuable all by itself.

Some people come to paint.

Some come to make tiny fake cakes.

Some come to play tabletop games.

Some come to sit quietly with other people who understand what it’s like to feel awkward walking into a room where you don’t know anyone.

And sometimes that’s enough.

Research has consistently shown that meaningful social connection is associated with better mental and physical health, lower rates of depression and anxiety, improved resilience, and even longer life. Isolation doesn’t just feel painful—it affects our bodies and our brains.

But here’s the challenge:

Adults rarely have places designed simply to make new friends.

Many community spaces now revolve around spending money.

So we wanted to build something different.

No diagnosis required.

No intake paperwork.

No expectation that you’ll become a client.

Just people making things together, talking, laughing, walking, gardening, rolling dice, and remembering that being human is something we’re meant to do together.

Will everyone become close friends?

Probably not.

But every meaningful relationship starts somewhere.

Sometimes it’s over a paintbrush.

Sometimes it’s during a walk.

Sometimes it’s because someone asked if the seat next to you was taken.

If our events help even one person feel a little less alone, they’re worth doing.

Because mental health isn’t built only in therapy offices.

It’s also built around tables, on walking trails, in gardens, through shared stories, and in communities where people are simply welcomed as they are.

We hope you’ll join us sometime.

No pressure.

Just connection.
