MINDY KNOLL
(she/her/hers)
Intern in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy & Expressive Arts Therapy
I think in systems, value deep connection, and believe that healing happens in the spaces
between us. My heart and mind are naturally drawn to relational theories and counseling. I have
an extensive background in the arts, and I welcome sitting with the dreamers and the
renegades.
With a foundation in trauma-informed care, I consider how our experiences, environment, and
cultures influence our mental health and relationships. Grounded in a strengths-based wellness
perspective, I lean toward experiential approaches in my clinical work and find Adlerian
principles helpful for understanding what drives clients and forms their realities. I can use
traditional talk therapy or expand into using the arts and play, based on client preference.
My path to professional counseling has been through the arts and connection with horses and
nature. I hold a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I spent over a decade
building props for stage, and have a rich, multiple-decade background in training dressage
horses and riders. I’ve also volunteered long-term with community-based non-profit
organizations like In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, the Grinnell Area Arts
Council, and The Milwaukee Depression and Bipolar Alliance.
My experiences in the arts and with horses have given me a unique lens: a developed sense of
empathy, curiosity, compassion, and a deep love of discovering magic, beauty, and meaningful
connection.
